The history of the plague spread in the Priamurye region (end of the XIX – beginning of the XX century)

Abstract

   This article is a full-text equivalent of the chapter “Plague” of the documentary-publicistic issue of “Opening the pages of unknown… From the history of sanitary matters in the Amur Oblast (end of the XIX – beginning of the XX century).”/ Executive editor T.N. Telyuk. – Blagoveshchensk-on-Amur: Amur fair, 2022. – p. 200. The article discusses the spread of the plague in Priamurye during exploration of the Far East at the end of the XIX and beginning of the XX century, based on the summarized data from long-term research, archival materials, documentary evidence, and articles in various periodicals, scientific, local history, and nonfiction literature. Main constraints and challenges the settlers have faced during epidemic of this dangerous disease are discussed as well as aspects of activities of the authorities and police in combating the spread of cholera. This hard work showed dedication, heroism and courage of physicians and specialists-predecessors of sanitary-epidemiological service of the Russian Federation.
