Abstract

Introduction. The development of the HIV epidemic in the Far Eastern Federal District, as well as in Russia, remains an urgent medical and social problem that poses a serious threat to human life and has serious socioeconomic consequences.

The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the epidemic process and to justify the necessary measures to counter the spread of HIV infection in the Far Eastern Federal District.

Materials and methods. The study was based on data obtained from 11 territorial AIDS prevention and control centers in the Far Eastern Federal District at the request of the Far Eastern District AIDS Prevention and Control Center. The study used descriptive and analytical epidemiology methods. Statistical analysis was performed using standard methods.

Results and discussion. By January 2026, the cumulative number of HIV-infected people in the district was 62,477. The coverage of the population by HIV testing reached 36.1 %. The incidence rate in 2025 was 26.9, and the prevalence rate was 420.2 per 100,000 population. Among newly diagnosed cases, there is still a high proportion of men, and the vast majority of new infections occur in people aged 40 and older. The predominant mode of transmission is through heterosexual contact (79.0 %). 92.8 % of all people living with HIV are registered with a healthcare provider. In 2025, 81.5 % of HIV-infected individuals in the Far Eastern Federal District were receiving antiretroviral therapy. The mortality rate was 16.4 per 100,000 population, and the lethality rate was 0.82 %. Preventive work with the population was actively carried out.

Conclusion. The HIV epidemic in the district is concentrated (0.42% of the district's total population is infected with HIV; the number of newly diagnosed HIV-infected individuals has decreased by 15.7 %). In order to monitor the situation, the study of both the main epidemiological indicators and the level of awareness of various population groups about HIV infection will continue, as well as the assessment of preventive measures.
