Peer Review Process

Peer-Review

Unilateral anonymous ("blind") peer review is mandatory for all articles submitted to the editorial board of the Far Eastern Journal of Infectious Pathology (This implies that neither the reviewer is aware of the authorship of the manuscript, nor the author maintains any contact with the reviewer. Authors receive a letter with comments signed by the editor-in-chief). Peer reviews are performed by members of the editorial board and editorial council, as well as invited independent experts in corresponding areas of life sciences. Editor-in-chief or deputy editor-in-chief select an expert who examines the article. The review is limited to 2-4 weeks, though the schedule can be extended at the reviewer’s request. Reviewer has an option to abnegate the assessment should any conflict of interest arise and/or affect perception and interpretation of the manuscript.

The reviewer presents following recommendations based on the results of assessment of the manuscript (each reviewer's decision is justified): to accept the paper in its present state; to accept the paper after the author revises the manuscript to address specific concerns of the reviewer; that final decision should be reached following further reviewing by another specialist; to reject the manuscript.

If the reviewer has recommended any refinements, the editorial staff would suggest the author either to implement the corrections (partially or completely), or to dispute them reasonably. Authors are kindly required to limit their revision to 2 months and resubmit the adapted manuscript within this period for final evaluation. The article revised by the author is re-submitted for review.

If the authors refuse to revise the materials, they should notify the editors of their decision in writing or verbally. If the authors fail to do so and do not return the revised version of the paper within 3 months since receiving the review, the editorial board takes the manuscript off the register. If it is the case, the authors will be notified of the withdrawal of the manuscript due to expiration of the period allotted for revision.

If the author and reviewers have insoluble contradictions regarding the manuscript, the editorial board has the right to send the manuscript for additional review. In conflict situations, the decision is made by the editor-in-chief at a meeting of the editorial board.

The decision to refuse publication of the manuscript is made at a meeting of the editorial board in accordance with the recommendations of the reviewers. An article not recommended for publication by the decision of the editorial board is not accepted for reconsideration. The refusal to publish is sent to the author by email.

After the editorial board of the journal makes a decision on the admission of the article for publication, the editorial board informs the author about it and indicates the terms of publication. A positive review is not a sufficient reason for publication of an article. Editorial board makes the final decision on publication. In the event of conflict situations the decision is made by the editor-in-chief. The originals of the reviews are kept in the editorial office of the journal for 5 years.
