<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Programmed cell death or Fas-associated apoptosis has a significant impact on the course of HIVinfection and chronic viral hepatitis C (CHC). The objective of the study was to compare the levels of serum Fas receptor (sFas) in patients with HIV-monoinfection, CHC-monoinfection and HIV-CHC coinfection. The enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the concentration of sFas in four groups of individuals: group with HIV and CHC coinfection (n=127), group of HIVmonoinfected individuals (n=127) and two comparison groups. First comparison group included individuals with CHC-monoinfection (n=78) and second one consisted of conditionally healthy people (n=127). HIV-infection had significant influence on the sFas levels compared to the comparison and control groups. No statistically significant differences of sFas concentration in the blood serum of individuals with HIV-CHC mixed infection compared to HIV-monoinfected people were detected despite higher sFas levels among HIV-HCV coinfected participants. Existing knowledge about the impact of hepatitis C virus on the apoptotic system indicates a necessity of patient stratification depending on the stage of liver fibrosis, antiviral therapy and proinflammatory markers in future studies of HIV and CHC coinfection influence on sFas levels.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>ВИЧ-инфекция</kwd><kwd>хронический гепатит С</kwd><kwd>апоптоз</kwd><kwd>патогенез</kwd><kwd>Fasсистема апоптоза</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>HIV-infection</kwd><kwd>chronic viral hepatitis C</kwd><kwd>apoptosis</kwd><kwd>pathogenesis</kwd><kwd>Fas cell signaling pathway</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Базыкина Е. А.
